It looks like the Georgia Bulldogs have drawn a team it knows fairly well in the upcoming ACC/SEC Challenge.
CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported on Wednesday that Georgia will play at Florida State in this year's edition of the challenge. It will be the 31st meeting between the Bulldogs and the Seminoles and the first since the two programs faced off in the challenge in November 2023.
Georgia is hoping for a repeat of that matchup in Tallahassee. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half before delivering a late rally that was capped off by Justin Hill's go-ahead jumper just before the buzzer expired. Hill's late heroics delivered a 68-66 victory for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs have held up well in the challenge during the Mike White era. Georgia is 2-0 in that time with the win over Florida State and a 69-48 victory over Notre Dame last December.
The Bulldogs will be facing a new-look Florida State program. Longtime head coach Leonard Hamilton retired this offseason, and FSU alum and former Sacramento Kings assistant Luke Loucks has been hired in his place. Loucks inherits a Seminoles program that went 17-15 overall and 8-12 in conference play last season.
Florida State has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2020-21.
Georgia, meanwhile, is coming off its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years. The Bulldogs lost key contributors Asa Newell (draft) and Silas Demary Jr. (UConn) but bring back Blue Cain, Somto Cyril, Dylan James, and Justin Abson. Additionally, the Bulldogs added Cal guard Jeremiah Wilkinson, Wofford guard Justin Bailey, BYU forward Kanon Catchings, St. Mary's guard Jordan Ross, and UTSA guard Marcus "Smurf" Millender from the transfer portal.
The Bulldogs also brought in four-star forward Jacob Wilkins, four-star center Kareem Stagg, and three-star center Jackson McVey from the high school ranks.
Georgia and Florida State have played each other 30 times with the first meeting taking place in the 1951-52 season. The Bulldogs have an 11-19 record against the Seminoles.
According to Rothstein, the other ACC/SEC Challenge matchups will be Florida at Duke, North Carolina at Kentucky, Virginia at Texas, NC State at Auburn, Clemson at Alabama, Louisville at Arkansas, Oklahoma at Wake Forest, SMU at Vanderbilt, Texas A&M at Pitt, Mississippi State at Georgia Tech, Miami at Ole Miss, LSU at Boston College, Virginia Tech at South Carolina, Tennessee at Syracuse, and Missouri at Notre Dame.
