Spanish club eye loan deal with option to buy for Man United misfit

Spanish side Real Betis are exploring a loan deal with an option to buy around £35 million for Manchester United forward Antony, according to the Daily Mail.

The Brazil international spent the second half of last season on loan with the Andalusian outfit and was in brilliant form for them.

He registered five goals and two assists in La Liga, helping Betis finish sixth and secure qualification for the Europa League.

Antony was also pivotal in their run to the Conference League final, where they were beaten by Chelsea.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Betis scheduled talks with United last week.

While no breakthrough has been reported yet, Betis are ‘ready to fight until the end’ to sign Antony and are working around the clock to ensure a deal is done.

Man United have placed a £40m asking price on him – a valuation that appears too steep for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Betis face competition for the signing of Antony as Bayer Leverkusen are now monitoring his situation.

A move to the BayArena would see him reunite with Erik ten Hag, the German side’s newly appointed manager.

Man United are prioritising the sale of the Brazilian this summer, but they reportedly need to recoup £32.52m from his exit to avoid recording a loss on him under the Profit and Sustainability (PSR) Rules.

Manager Ruben Amorim does not have Antony in his plans because his playing style does not suit the Portuguese manager’s 3-4-2-1 system.

United have already shown their intent to sign players who fit and will be committed to Amorim’s philosophy and sell those who do not.

This informs the club’s decision to be open to selling Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho.

United hope to use the proceeds from their sales to fortify their squad.
