Report: Agents pushing to secure Viktor Gyokeres transfer for two reasons as Manchester United explore move

Manchester United are keeping close tabs on the situation surrounding Viktor Gyokeres as he attempts to leave Sporting.

Manchester United fans want to see more goals next season and Ruben Amorim is trying to make that happen.

Matheus Cunha has joined United from Wolverhampton Wanderers and should occupy one of the number 10 roles in Amorim’s system.

United are chasing Bryan Mbeumo to join Cunha in the final third, though there is work to be done on a deal for the Brentford star.

Amorim could field a new-look front three next season, but that would mean bringing in a new centre-forward as well.

Rasmus Hojlund struggled this past season and United may invest in a new goalscorer if money can be raised.

Viktor Gyokeres agents set for Sporting talks

Liam Delap chose a move to Chelsea over United, and that brings Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres back into focus.

Gyokeres was a goal machine under Amorim at Sporting, and many expected him to secure a big-money transfer this summer.

That hasn’t happened, and while we are early into the summer window, the door appears to be open for United to strike.

United have made contact to sign Gyokeres, setting the wheels in motion for a potential reunion with Amorim.

Gyokeres is now furious with Sporting, believing that they are pricing him out of a potential move away from Lisbon.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas has hit back at Gyokeres, with the situation around the Swede’s future now in danger of escalating.

A Bola report that Gyokeres’ agents are expected to arrive in Lisbon very soon as they attempt to solve the problems between Sporting and the striker.

The agents involved are ‘unhappy’ and are now set to fly out to Portugal for crunch talks over a potential transfer.

United will be paying close attention, though may not be able to offer Gyokeres an immediate solution.

Agents want Viktor Gyokeres transfer but United may need to wait

United have already committed money to Cunha’s arrival, paying his £62.5million release clause in three instalments.

Mbeumo will, hopefully, be the next United arrival, but a deal for the Brentford attacker will not come cheap.

Gyokeres would cost a similar fee, and United may need to offload some players to afford the Sporting ace.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are all available, but progress on permanent exits for the trio appears slow.

United may have to hope that Gyokeres is patient and can wait for the move to Old Trafford, though his agents are pushing for a move.

A Bola suggest that Gyokeres’ representatives believe a transfer must go through this summer for two reasons.

The first is that Gyokeres is already 27, and waiting another year may see a move to a top-level club fade away.

The second is that Gyokeres showed loyalty to Sporting by snubbing a transfer last summer, instead deciding to stay and win another league title.

Sporting are standing firm on their price tag, but United will hope to win the race – and not be held to ransom in the process.
