It's a funny thing about the so-called "dark cloud'' that hovers over some organizations, the New York Jets included.
It's so often supposedly never the fault of the people who are paid to bring the sunshine.
New coach Aaron Glenn and new GM Darren Mougey went through the roster this offseason and picked it apart. If a guy didn't belong, he was nudged.
If a guy didn't want to be here and didn't belong here, he was shoved.
Yes, we're talking about you, Aaron Rodgers, the self-appointed "Enigma'' and fresh hero to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And yes, this fits Davante Adams, too, a mid-season acquisition to came to New York as a superstar and pal of Rodgers ... and no, it did not work out.
At all.
Individually, Davante's numbers were OK for Jets. In 11 games after being traded for from the Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick, he had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns.
But his Jets - yes, his Jets - went 5-12. And the team ended up cutting him.
Adams is now with the Los Angeles Rams and saying all the things that high-profile guys say when they land in a new setting.
"I feel like this is what I needed just based off the vibe and the aura of the building," Adams said. "And everybody's in a good mood. It's not like a dark cloud over the building. And I've experienced that quite a bit over the last few years. So, it's a glaring difference when you come into a building like this."
Oh.
We're not arguing about the "dark cloud'' and its existence in New York.
What we are doing is wondering how Adams (and Rodgers, too) fail to realize that they were charged with the responsibility clearing the cloud and bringing the sunshine. ... and because they didn't do that, they weren't "under a dark cloud.''
They were themselves part of the dark cloud.
