Suspect in death of KC sports reporter covering Super Bowl faces 33 total charges

One of three suspects in the death of a Kansas City sports reporter faces more than 30 total charges in the case.

On June 4, Rickey White, 34, was charged with multiple counts of theft, identity theft, access device fraud, money laundering, conspiracy to commit theft, and being booked as a fugitive, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

White, who is currently incarcerated at Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, also faces a second-degree murder charge, in addition to charges of simple robbery, access device fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, bank fraud and computer fraud.

White now has 33 total charges since being arrested in March. The bond for his total charges is more than $620,000.

Investigators believe White worked with suspect Danette Colbert, 48, who was arrested on Feb. 6 and faces the same charges, to steal money from Adan Manzano, a scheme the two have allegedly done before. White was arrested in Hollywood, Florida, on March 14. The two had a preliminary hearing on April 16, where a request to set bond was denied.

A third suspect, Christian Anderson, was arrested on May 30 and faces similar theft and robbery charges. Anderson also has an additional charge of being a fugitive placed on him on June 4.

Anderson has a $600,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing in a Jefferson Parish judicial court on June 17, according to court records.

At the time of his death, Manzano, 27, was on assignment in New Orleans, covering Super Bowl LIX for Telemundo and Tico Sports, a multimedia production company that broadcasts Kansas City Chiefs games in Spanish.

Manzano was found dead face down on a pillow in his Comfort Suites hotel room in Kenner, Louisiana, on Feb. 5, officials said in March. The cause of Manzano’s death was the combined toxic effects of Xanax and alcohol, as well as “positional asphyxia.”
