Pittsburgh Steelers lowballing teams in trade talks for a top playmaker, insider says

The Pittsburgh Steelers are lowballing teams while in trade talks to acquire a top wide receiver, according to CBS NFL insider Jonathan Jones.

Jones says the Steelers have called plenty of teams and remain in contact with them but, to this point, have not put up a serious, competitive offer for one of the top playmakers.

“They’re going to have to get another pass catcher,” Jones told Kyle Long on the Pushing the Pile podcast. “I don’t know if that’s wide receiver, and I don’t know if that’s tight end. They’re going to have to get a pass catcher. And they know that. They’ve been lowballing teams when they make a call. ‘Hey, how about this guy? No, we’re not doing that for a conditional sixth-round pick’ They’ll get there.”

The Steelers have called on Chris Olave, sources told PennLive, and it seems others, such as Jonnu Smith and Kyle Pitts remain in the fold, too. Those remain options for the Steelers, but either those teams do not seem keen on trading those players just yet, or the Steelers have not yet put forth a serious offer on some of those players.

There are likely other top playmakers the Steelers have at least explored acquiring on top of that, too. Either way, the Steelers named Calvin Austin III their WR2 on Wednesday, and it seems they have a lot of confidence in him.
