‘I can’t wait’: Los Angeles Rams excited for mini camp, community activities on Maui

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In less than a week, the Los Angeles Rams will be on Maui holding their 2025 mini camp.

The team is set to spend the week on the Valley Isle at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku June 17-18.

They’re preparing for the upcoming NFL season, and connecting to a community that has also faced hardships.

“What a cool opportunity that we’ve got to be able to partner up with Maui,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said. “A lot of similar things that that community has gone through and, obviously, an opportunity to be able to extend your kind of brand reach if you will.”

The team will hold two on-field practices on Tuesday and Wednesday with the latter being open to the public.

“As far as the amount of football, this is about being able to connect. We’ll do a couple things, more like a phase two day,” McVay said. “Any 11-on-11 stuff, that’s not going to be in existence.”

More importantly, the Rams will host clinics for keiki after both days while also partnering with Habitats for Humanity to build homes in Lahaina.

“I think this will be a great chance for us to be able to bring families, do some fun stuff,” McVay said. “To be able to connect and then also be able to get back to the community.”

For some players, it’ll be a chance to reconnect with the islands, like wide receiver Puka Nacua who has family ties to Hawaii and is heavily involved in the annual Polynesian Bowl.

The third year man out of BYU is eager to share the experience with his teammates.

“I’m excited. I can’t wait for everybody to go out there, have some shaved ice, some spam musubi,” Nacua said. “It’ll be good. I can’t wait. I know the McDonald’s over there, they serve Portuguese sausage. I’m going to have to go on a fast after because we’ll have rice with breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

This will be the first time the NFL has been to the islands since the Rams hosted a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys in 2019.
