Bucks News: Bobby Portis an Emerging Target for West Contender, 2023 National Stint Team Might…

Giannis Antetokounmpo publicly asked Bobby Portis last month what he is going to do next with his career, whether he will leave the Milwaukee Bucks or not.

The 30-year-old did not respond and that is one of the main questions being asked by Bucks fans right now as the team try to build a contending team after yet another first round exit.

Will he stay or not? That depends largely on the negotiation with Milwaukee. Or another team.

Reports revealed Portis is tagged as among the major free agents this offseason with the Golden State Warriors emerging as a key suitor.

“Team executives expect Portis to have numerous potential landing spots in the midlevel market as well, although Milwaukee would like to bring back the 30-year-old forward, sources say,” NBA reporter Jake Fischer said.

Portis might feel at home with the Warriors not just because they are desperate to land a big man but also because of his connection with the head coach.

“Golden State has always been a team to monitor for Portis, who has a notable fan in head coach Steve Kerr from their shared days during the 2023 FIBA World Cup competition with USA Basketball.”

Bobby Portis’ future with the Bucks

Portis is one of the four remaining players from the 2021 NBA title-winning team alongside Antetokounmpo, Brook Lopez, and Pat Connaughton.

He is a fan favorite in Milwaukee and is expected to remain with the team.

“I wrote early on I thought Bobby would be a S&T candidate after an opt-out. But the more I’m hearing is he may be more likely to opt-in.”, said Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel during a Reddit AMA.

The latest report echoes the same take. Portis will remain a Buck.

Milwaukee Bucks fans, Bobby Portis

Bobby Portis, who has a $13.4M player option coming up, is expected to return to the Bucks for his 11th NBA season.

There’s common belief that Portis — a fan favorite in the city — will either opt in to his current deal or sign a new long-term extension to remain in Milwaukee.
