For at least the next two weeks, Chelsea's main focus will on the Club World Cup and not on the summer transfer window. The Blues are quite clearly intent on winning the whole tournament with moves for Jamie Gittens, Mike Maignan and Hugo Ekitike targeted prior to the first deadline
Despite bids and multiple rounds of talks, Enzo Maresca's side were unable to get a deal over the line for any of the trio but three other fresh faces in Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr will be on the plane to the United States.
Wesley Fofana is perhaps the biggest name to be left out and there is no space for Renato Veiga, Joao Felix or Djorde Petrovic with permanent exits for both now looking very likely.
Even with the trading period not open, updates on concrete and long-term targets are still expected and the latest development surrounding Victor Osimhen is a big one. With that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Chelsea transfer news and rumours.
Osimhen boost
Galatasaray, the former loan club of Osimhen, have agreed a marquee deal to sign Leroy Sane as a free agent. The 29-year-old rejected Bayern Munich's contract extension offer and as a result, he will join the Turkish champions on a three-year deal worth in the region of £25million.
Given his success there during the 2024/25 season, it is no surprise that Galatasaray want him back permanently but that could now be a difficult deal to commit to financially even with claims being made they are hopeful it will actually help their chances of him joining.
football.london says: It is certainly surprising to see the amount of money being spent on Sane even with no transfer fee paid.
The expected addition of Sane can be taken several ways with one of those being that Galatasaray are making their intentions clear to start competing on the European stage. Alternatively, as mentioned above, they may no longer be able to also afford Osimhen.
It appears more likely the latter will be the case with serious questions needing to be asked if they are able to pay his £63.6million (€75m) Napoli release clause and the lofty personal demands of Osimhen and Sane.
Petrovic request
According to Matt Law of the Telegraph, Djorde Petrovic requested to be omitted from Chelsea's Club World Cup squad in order to focus on a move elsewhere.
Such a development would explain the pursuit of Maignan with it now very possible that is reignited over the coming weeks.
football.london says: It is a shame that Petrovic will not get another chance at Chelsea following such a great season on loan at Strasbourg. However, the Serbia international cannot really be blamed for his decision.
He performed admirably in between the sticks during the 2023/24 season and was unfairly pushed out the door if only for a temporary spell. Considering how uncertain the goalkeeper situation is at Stamford Bridge, it is perhaps no surprise that the 25-year-old is looking for pastures new.
One positive for Chelsea however, is that his stock will be very high and making a profit on the £14million paid for his services two years ago is therefore likely.
