Ruben Amorim will be desperate to welcome a few more new faces to Old Trafford this summer. Manchester United have already made their first marquee signing of the window, signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m.

The Reds have also wrapped up deals for a couple of youngsters, prising Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno and Harley Emsden-James from Southampton. United have shown no sign of slowing down, with Viktor Gyokeres and Bryan Mbuemo mooted as potential targets.

If Amorim wants to splash the cash – and remain compliant with the Premier League's spending rules – he may have to offload some big names. So, with that being said, the Manchester Evening News has rounded up the latest United news and transfer gossip.

United given Gyokeres update

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Arsenal are preparing to formalise a bid for Gyokeres. The report claims that the Gunners recently met with the 27-year-old striker's agent to discuss terms of a proposal for Sporting CP.

It's said that Arsenal are yet to begin 'formal negotiations' with the Primeira Liga champions, but they're expected to submit a 'concrete' offer in the coming hours. A Bola state that Manchester United remain keen on Gyokeres, who has always expressed a desire to move to the Premier League.

The Portuguese newspaper claims that the Reds have not yet thrown in the towel, with Amorim taking on a 'very important role'. Sporting reportedly want €60m (£51m), plus €10m (£8.5m) in add-on, for the Sweden international.

The Manchester Evening News says: "Viktor Gyokeres would be a superb signing for Manchester United. The Reds must wrap up a deal before Arsenal submit a bid. The Gunners have Champions League football on offer."

United tipped to sign Mbeumo

Speaking on the Stretford Paddock’s YouTube channel, Laurie Whitwell tipped United to sign Mbeumo from Brentford. The Athletic journalist said: "The first bid was £45m, plus £10m in add-ons… but I think Brentford want a fee more in line with what United paid for Cunha.

"They’ve looked at it and thought, this is what you’re paying for Cunha, Mbeumo also scores goals, so now we’re at a point where the clubs are deciding how much that is going to be.

"I think all the sides think that this will get done, but I don’t think it is imminent. My personal view is that it will get done eventually."

The Manchester Evening News says: "Bryan Mbeumo would be another good signing for Manchester United. The Reds just have to make sure that they don't get ripped off. It's okay to walk away from a deal if Brentford are simply asking for too much. £60m tops."

Fernandes makes Leao feelings clear

Bruno Fernandes has wished Rafael Leao a happy birthday. Captioning a picture of the AC Milan star on Instagram, the United captain wrote: "HB my boy (red heart emoji). Maninho deeeeeeel".

Speaking to Sky Italia following Portugal's win over Germany in the Nations League semi-final, Fernandes showered Leao with praise. The midfielder said: "I met him as a kid at Sporting; he came up to the first team with me.

"He is a boy with an enormous talent that we all hope will become stronger every time because we know how much talent he has. He has had his moments, but I still believe that he is a phenomenon player who can give us something more."

The Manchester Evening News says: "I would love to see Rafael Leao in the Premier League, but I doubt he'd join Manchester United. AC Milan just failed to qualify for Europe themselves, so I think the Portuguese forward would prioritise a move to somewhere like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City or Liverpool."
