Wolves have an important summer ahead of them on the recruitment front
Vitor Pereira was brought in during the last campaign and he has since steadied the ship at Molineux. He was picked as their replacement for Gary O’Neil. The Portuguese boss has become a popular figure among the fanbase of the Midlands outfit and guided them to Premier League survival with ease in the end.
Wolves should target Victor Lindelof move after Manchester United exit
The door has opened for top flight teams including Wolves to launch a swoop for defender Victor Lindelof following his exit from Manchester United. As per a report by CaughtOffside, Pereira’s side have been linked with a move for him. The player has a big decision to make on his next move as a free agent and he will be weighing up his options in the game.
Lindelof, 30, has been on the books at Old Trafford since 2017. Prior to his move to England, he spent four years at Benfica. He has taken to Instagram to post the following message after his departure from Old Trafford: “There’s nothing on earth like being a red. Manchester, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
The centre-back is now an option for Wolves as they hunt for some additions. Cunha and Ait-Nouri’s departures have freed up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for reinforcements. Pereira will be keen to put his own stamp on the squad over the next couple of months as he gears up for his first full season at the helm.
Why Victor Lindelof would suit Wolves
Lindelof would be a shrewd signing by Wolves if they decide to hand him a deal. They wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee for him which would be beneficial and would save money for other acquisitions. In addition, he would inject bags of experience into their dressing room and would be a useful player to have in and around the club.
He rocked up at United eight years ago as a bit of an unknown quantity from Benfica and went on to become a great servant to the North West giants. The Sweden international, who has 71 caps to his name, played 284 matches and scored four goals from the back. He also won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League.
Lindelof had some injury issues last term but is now fully fit again. He said at the time: “It has been extremely difficult. I’m used to playing a lot of matches and not being able to do it continuously has been tough. It takes a toll on the psyche to do all the rehab, which is not very fun."
In terms of where he could end up next, he added: "Benfica is a club that means a lot to me. They shaped me into the player I am today. I don’t know what will happen and what my decision will be. But it is a club that I like."
