Transfer news LIVE!

The summer window remains alive despite a brief hiatus between registration windows ahead of the start of the Club World Cup. The biggest deal of the close season is edging closer to a conclusion, with Liverpool planning a medical for Florian Wirtz after agreeing a stunning £127million deal with Bayer Leverkusen. This is a British record surpassing the £115m Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo.

Arsenal continue to work on two key arrivals and are plotting a medical of their own. Martin Zubimendi is finally set to join in a deal worth around £59m, almost a year after talks first began for a player Mikel Arteta has long deemed a dream signing. The Gunners hope to soon add Benjamin Sesko to their ranks for around £60m, but Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen will cost more with Manchester United sniffing around.

Chelsea are currently focusing on their first Club World Cup game, against LAFC on Sunday, but are expected to soon revive interest in Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens after failed attempts to snap them up before the first summer deadline. Manchester City got deals for Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders over the line. Tottenham are set to announce Thomas Frank as their new manager imminently. Chelsea get Gittens lifeline

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has left the door open for Chelsea with regards to a future deal for Jamie Gittens.

Chelsea were in talks to sign Gittens in time to be registered in their squad for the Club World Cup tournament which gets underway in the USA this weekend.

However, the 20-year-old was still a Dortmund player after the first of this summer’s transfer windows closed at 7pm BST on Tuesday.

That said, all is not lost in terms of a potential transfer taking place at some point in the near future.

Liverpool plan Wirtz medical with agreement close

Man Utd have plan to sign Osimhen

Napoli are holding out for €70million (£63.5m) to sell Victor Osimhen this summer, but Manchester United have a plan to reduce that figure.

Al Hilal did think they had sealed the Nigerian's signature, with the offer for €40m over three years, only for Osimhen to pull the plug at the last minute. The Saudi club tried again before yesterday's first summer deadline, but again were rejected.

Why? Because, according to Gazetta dello Sport, Osimhen wants to play in the Premier League. He has one year left on his contract in Naples, and United sense and opportunity.

United hope they can bring the cost of Osimhen down by offering striker Joshua Zirkzee in part-exchange and the report claims Napoli are open to the idea.

One to watch.

Arsenal fend off rival interest in Sesko

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko.

The Gunners have made the RB Leipzig star their no1 striker target this summer, having seemingly gone cold on Viktor Gyokeres, and are in talks over a deal which could be worth around £60million.

But they are (read: were) not the only admirers of Sesko, who was the subject of a bid from Al Hilal ahead of this week’s first transfer deadline.

The Mirror reports that a late move was made on Tuesday, but Sesko rejected it as he wishes to remain in Europe.

Angel Gomes deal confirmed

Angel Gomes is set to join Marseille after the Ligue 1 club announced they had reached an "agreement in principle" to sign the England midfielder.

The former Manchester United youngster is set to become a free agent when his contract with another French side in Lille expires at the end of this month.

The 24-year-old could also be joined by Burnley's CJ Egan-Riley at the Stade Velodrome after the Clarets confirmed the defender had rejected the offer of a new deal at Turf Moor.

Gomes joined Lille five years ago after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford.

Liverpool name Darwin Nunez asking price

Liverpool are hoping to secure a fee of at least £59million as they look to offload misfiring striker Darwin Nunez this summer.

The Uruguayan played 30 matches as Liverpool cruised to the Premier League title this year, but was responsible for just five of their 86 goals.

He was a club record signing when he moved from Benfica for £85m in 2022 and has struggled under the weight of the price tag.

The Reds are now prepared to take a £26m loss on their initial investment as they look to recoup as much as possible with a sale, according to reports from TalkSport.

Their valuation is said to be based on a January bid received from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, who offered £59m. Liverpool will not sell for less than that.
