"I am told..." - Journalist shares Sesko to Arsenal update as Gyokeres talks on Wednesday…

Arsenal remain interested in a summer move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, despite holding talks with Viktor Gyokeres’ camp on Wednesday, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed.

The Gunners are looking to bring in a new centre-forward for Mikel Arteta this offseason and are believed to have earmarked both Sesko and Gyokeres as their top options on the market.

While Sesko is a long-term target and was pursued in the past two transfer windows, Gyokeres was also approached by the North London club this week to gauge his interest in a move to the Emirates.

However, Bailey claims that Arsenal’s recent conversations with the Swedish striker’s representatives do not necessarily mean talks over Sesko have been called off – the Leipzig starlet is still a player of interest for the Gunners.

Remain in talks with both star strikers

According to Bailey, Arsenal are more advanced in talks with Sesko than they are with Gyokeres at this stage, having held discussions with both the Slovenian striker and Leipzig over a potential summer deal:

“Sesko knows Arsenal have maintained talks with Gyokeres, and it’s true that the Gunners have held talks over the Sporting CP striker.

“At no point have Arsenal called off talks, but clearly, and as we know, they have progressed further as they have, and are talking to Leipzig – but they are not talking to Sporting yet.

“So yeah, they have talked to Gyokeres’ camp today, but I am told they’ve spoken to Leipzig too – they really are progressing with both, but Sesko still further forward at this point.”

Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Sesko last summer, before the Slovenia international signed a new five-year deal with Leipzig.

The 22-year-old is likely to be available for his €80m (£67m) release clause this summer, as Leipzig are in a strong negotiating position with four years left on his contract.

Gyokeres, meanwhile, has also emerged as a concrete transfer target for Manchester United, who are aiming to reunite the 26-year-old forward with manager Ruben Amorim.

The Sweden international has blossomed into one of the best strikers in Europe during his two seasons with Sporting, scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances across all competitions.
