Manchester United are reportedly presented with an unexpected opportunity this summer, the chance to sign Bayern Munich’s South Korean centre-back Kim Min‑jae, according to TBR Football.
The South Korean defender joined the German side in 2023 for around £51 million.
Bayern are now reportedly open to offers, and United, along with Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Newcastle, have been alerted to his availability .
Kim’s first season at Bayern under Vincent Kompany was impressive. The 28-year-old established himself as a key component in a title-winning defense.
Man United linked with a move for Kim Min-jae
With Bayern’s recent signing of defender Jonathan Tah, Kim’s future may be uncertain.
Should United move forward, they could potentially negotiate a reduced fee. However, concerns exist that his transfer price might still be firm, limiting United’s flexibility on other fronts.
In the defensive position, Ruben Amorim has several options at the club already.
The likes of Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven and Noussair Mazraoui are already at the club.
Signing another defender at this stage may not be the wisest decision from the Red Devils.
Having already signed Matheus Cunha and targeting a move for Bryan Mbeumo now, the Premier League giants should focus on their midfield position as well as the wide attacking position.
The future of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony is uncertain at Old Trafford and with almost all of them most likely leaving the club this summer, they need reinforcements in the wide attacking positions more than they need a new defender.

The attribute of Kim which might have impressed United is his ball playing ability. He would suit the playing style of Amorim at the club but considering the options already available at his disposal, signing Kim does not make much sense at the moment.
Despite Bayern’s openness, United would face stiff competition. City, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, and Newcastle are also tracking Kim.
If they are genuinely interested in the defender who won the league with Bayern Munich in 2024-25, they need to act swiftly.
As far as other positions are concerned, the Red Devils have identified Nice goalkeeper Marcin Bulka as their target to replace Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
