After a breakthrough season in which he made 37 senior appearances for Arsenal and scored nine goals, Ethan Nwaneri is now switching his focus to his international commitments.
The 18-year-old is the youngest member of the England U21 squad that are competing at this year’s tournament in Slovakia.
England’s campaign gets underway tonight when they face Czechia, with further games to come against Slovenia and Germany.
Nwaneri scored his first goal for the U21s against Portugal in March in what was just his second appearance for England at this level.
Prior to that the hugely talented youngster had scored six goals in nine games for England U19s and 15 goals in 28 caps for the U17s.
It will be intriguing to see how Nwaneri is used during this tournament in terms of both how much playing time he receives and the positions in which he is used.
Nwaneri has shown that he can make an impact as an attacking midfielder or out wide, while he has also previously been used as a striker in academy games.
The ultimate aim for Nwaneri will be to follow in the footsteps of his close friend Myles Lewis-Skelly and eventually make it into the England senior squad.
This tournament could well be another step in the right direction as far as his overall career is concerned.
