Ruben Amorim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe face hidden struggle with forgotten Man Utd star, immediate solution isn't so easy – …

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ruben Amorim have one first-team Manchester United player who is an elephant in the room at Old Trafford and is flying right under the radar.

Ruben Amorim is expected to have a major clearout of his Manchester United first-team squad this summer, despite the limitations around the club’s financial powers.

The 40-year-old United manager inherited his Red Devils squad from Erik ten Hag last November and Amorim lacks the players needed for his system to work.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos added Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu to Amorim’s options in the 2024-25 season after the pair were signed in the January window.

Amorim has also received his first major summer signing after the window opened in June, with United signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for a £62.5m transfer fee.

United are expected to further strengthen their attacking options and have been linked with Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo and Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Tyrell Malacia’s potential return to Old Trafford raises big question marks for Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim

Tyrell Malacia left Old Trafford during the January window and the Manchester United player completed a loan move to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in February.

The 25-year-old Dutch left-back returned for the Red Devils last November after a long-term injury kept him out of action for United for 17 months.

Tyrell Malacia had two rounds of knee surgery for his injury and he missed the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign under former United manager Erik ten Hag.

The United full-back was restricted to eight matches for the Red Devils across all competitions last season before he completed his transfer to PSV Eindhoven.

However, the disappointment for Malacia has continued during his six-month loan spell and the Netherlands international only managed 12 appearances for PSV.

Malacia started in six of his 12 matches for PSV and the Dutchman did not score or pick up an assist for his side, with the United star underwhelming for the club.

Why Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ruben Amorim could struggle to offload PSV player Tyrell Malacia in the summer transfer window

PSV’s loan move for Tyrell Malacia during the 2024-25 season reportedly included the option to make the United player’s move permanent for an £8.5m transfer fee.

The Eredivisie side have not made any clear signals that the former Feyenoord defender is someone that they are desperate to keep hold of this summer.

Malacia’s contract with PSV will expire on 30th June and the Netherlands defender will return to Old Trafford if a suitable buyer does not come in for him.

The PSV player is under contract with United until 2026 and the Red Devils have the option to extend for another year, but the club could struggle to offload him now.

Malacia’s long-term injury curtailed his Old Trafford playing spell and his transfer fee has all but diminished after his absence on the sidelines and poor spell at PSV.

United are keen to free up wages and offload players as part of ensuring their funds fall in line with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

However, the difficulty for Ruben Amorim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now finding any club willing to sign Malacia for even the smallest fee before the summer window shuts.
