Report: Newcastle see Man United player as a ‘strong option’ for their Champions League squad

Newcastle United are reportedly in a race with Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur to sign a Champions League finalist who looks desperate for a new club.

Eddie Howe is looking to improve his attacking options this summer after securing Champions League qualification on the final day of the Premier League season.

The right wing is the position most in need of improvement, with Jacob Murphy the only genuine option Newcastle United can choose for their starting XI. William Osula can play on the wing, but Howe has yet to fully trust him.

With a right-winger one of Newcastle’s priorities this summer, fans thought that they were destined to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. However, the 25-year-old is now set to sign for Manchester United in a move that shocked many Toon fans.

With the search for a winger still ongoing, a new report has identified a new name that the Magpies are linked with, which is a big surprise to many.

Newcastle United eyeing a move for Man United winger Jadon Sancho

The last few years have been tough for Man United winger Jadon Sancho, who is desperate to recapture his form after failing to impress since signing for the Red Devils in 2021.

Since 2023, Sancho has spent time on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, but is now looking for a permanent exit from his Man United contract. Chelsea had the option to make his loan permanent, but they opted against that, leaving his future in limbo.

Now, Sun Sport have reported that Newcastle, Aston Villa and Tottenham are all monitoring developments with Sancho and could consider a move for him this summer. The 25-year-old looks destined to leave Man United in the summer transfer window, so a cut-price deal could be on the cards for him.

The report states that Newcastle and Tottenham are keeping tabs on him as they believe he is a “strong option” for their upcoming Champions League campaigns. Sancho has played in a Champions League final before, losing out with Dortmund at Wembley in 2024.

Additionally, the winger is coming off the back of Chelsea’s Conference League final victory, a game in which he scored.

Jadon Sancho’s statistics compared to Newcastle United wingers

Having returned to Old Trafford after his loan at Chelsea, it is evident that Sancho has no future in the North West and will need to move on for the good of his future.

A problem with a deal is that Sancho’s wage demands will surely be on the steeper side. According to Capology, his wage at Man United is currently £150,000, which would make him the second-highest paid player at Newcastle if he were to join with the same salary.

With his form having declined, Newcastle will be eager to reduce his wage if he were to sign.

There is no doubt that Sancho still has the ability to be a quality player. He is only 25; he just needs to be in an environment that is beneficial for him. Howe could give him that in abundance on Tyneside.
