Steele: Konaté Extension Sounds Encouraging

Liverpool FC had to deal with uncertainty hanging over the club all season with the deals of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and another player I’ve forgotten the name of, and it looks like this could be the case again with Ibrahima Konaté, whose contract will expire in summer 2026, and has suitors in the form of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

There certainly has been worry on that front, with the player himself having to come out and set the record straight on his supposed demands in an interview with Sports Illustrated recently.

Speaking on a livestream on his YouTube channel, the Daily Mail’s Liverpool FC beat reporter Lewis Steele offered his thought on a potential Ibou extension:

“If you asked me about Konate a month ago I would’ve said I would’ve been worried about him.”

“The fact he has a year left and Madrid want him, but what he has said to us since when I’ve spoken to him at games has calmed my feelings on that and I think he will end up extending. That’s my gut feeling, but a month ago I wasn’t so sure.”

Indeed, it feels like there’s been a public softening in Konaté’s stance with the SI interview. It may have something to do with Mo and Virgil locked in for the future, new additions in Frimpong, Wirtz and Kerkez and more on the way.
