Ealing schools lead London charge at NFL Flag national finals

Two schools from Ealing will carry London’s hopes at the 2025 NFL Flag UK National Championships in Leeds on 17 June 2025.

Little Ealing Primary (11U Mixed) and Ealing Fields (13U Mixed and 15U Girls) earned their places after emerging victorious at the regional finals, joining 26 other schools from across the country in pursuit of national titles.

The event, being held in Leeds for the first time, marks the culmination of a record-breaking year for the sport. Over 480 schools entered local qualifiers, with 280 children from 28 schools reaching the finals. The London regional competition at Hackney Marshes on 22 May featured 44 schools and 420 pupils, showcasing the capital’s growing enthusiasm for flag football.

Little Ealing and Ealing Fields’ success is emblematic of flag football’s rapid rise in popularity. Since launching in the UK in 2017, the NFL Flag programme – focused on non-contact American football – has reached more than 120,000 young people across 1,000 schools. The national finals will feature teams across three divisions: 11U Mixed, 13U Mixed and 15U Girls.

Dr Chris Long, NFL Head of Youth Football and Grassroots Development, said: “Thank you to all the schools from across London who have competed in this year’s championship, and its preceding qualifiers. We are so pleased to see more and more people of all ages playing NFL Flag, some coming back year after year and developing their game, some getting their first taste of American football. We look forward to welcoming all our champion teams in Leeds later this month.”
