PITTSBURGH -- New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers says that he will happily mentor the team’s rookie quarterback, sixth-round pick Will Howard.
Howard was picked by the Steelers out of Ohio State, and now gets a chance to learn from Rodgers, a four-time MVP and Super Bowl winner.
“I am. Will’s a good kid. We got to talk a little bit. I thought he did really well today. He seems pretty bright, not too big for him. Going through the progressions really well. Yeah, I’m going to be with him every single day and every single meeting. Found my seat next to him today in the offensive meeting, whether or not that sticks. Right next to Will Howard. I’m going to help him out as much as I can,” Rodgers said.
Howard was just three years old when the Green Bay Packers selected Rodgers in the 2005 NFL Draft. Now, officially Rodgers’ teammate, Howard is pumped up to play with the four-time MVP.
“I’m fired up. He’s a guy I grew up watching, idolizing. It’s cool to be in the same room as him. He’s a legend in this game. I’m gonna try and learn as much as I can from him and be the best support guy I can be for him. It’s amazing,” Howard said.
Howard transferred into Columbus from Kansas State, where he was a multiple-year starter and team captain. During his season, the Buckeyes were an up-and-down offense, but became an elite unit once Howard’s play took a significant leap in the College Football Playoff.
With Rodgers now in town, Howard could get some mentoring from the 41-year-old quarterback. He is a Super Bowl winner, and Howard hopes to reach those heights one day.
This season, Howard threw for 4010 passing yards, a career-high. With that, he posted a 73 percent completion percentage, another career-high mark. Howard had 35 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
