Barcelona chief makes fresh transfer admission after Liverpool rebuffed Luis Diaz approach

Barcelona's sporting director Deco has openly admitted that the club is still on the hunt for a new forward, following Liverpool's rebuff of interest in Luis Diaz.

The La Liga heavyweights had their eyes on the Colombian ace earlier this month, but the Reds are not entertaining any thoughts of letting the 28-year-old leave this summer.

Diaz's talents have not only caught the attention of Barcelona but also clubs from the Saudi Pro League, and he was previously in Manchester City's crosshairs last year, before playing a key role in Liverpool's title success.

The exact figure Barca would be willing to offer for Diaz remains a mystery, yet Deco concedes that reinforcing the forward line is a top agenda item for the Catalans in the upcoming transfer window.

"I think we have enough balance, both in defence and in midfield," Deco shared with Globoesporte.

"There are players who are still going to grow. Like Gavi, who is returning from an injury, but who will improve a lot with next year's preseason. There is also Marc Bernal, who was injured at the beginning of the season.

"We have (Ronald) Araujo and Dani Olmo, with whom we are working so that they do not suffer injuries again.

"In attack, it will depend on what we can do in the market. But perhaps it is the only sector in which we identify that one or another player is missing."

Earlier in the month, Diaz himself acknowledged that his agents were in talks over a possible departure from Anfield.

The forward, who notched an impressive 17 goals in his last season's tally, is edging closer to the final two years of his stint with Liverpool.

Speaking candidly during his time with the national team, he conveyed his present standpoint, keeping options open for his future.

He said: "I'm very happy at Liverpool, I've always said so. They've welcomed me very well from day one.

"We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening. We're trying to arrange what's best for us. I'm waiting to see what happens.

"If Liverpool offers us a really good [contract] renewal, or since I still have the two years left on my contract I will definitely stay there happy and content. It all depends on them."
