Arsenal set to make an offer to Sporting Lisbon for Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are expected to accelerate their transfer plans in the coming weeks as pre-season draws closer under Ruben Amorim.

With Matheus Cunha already signed and more arrivals on the way, the focus is now shifting to strengthening the attacking options.

The Red Devils struggled to convert chances last season, which contributed heavily to their 15th-place finish in the Premier League.

Recruitment staff have identified a shortlist of strikers, and negotiations have begun with multiple agents across Europe.

As one of United’s targets edges closer to a Premier League rival, urgency is growing behind the scenes at Carrington.

According to Record in Portugal, Arsenal met with the agent of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres yesterday.

The meeting took place in London with Hasan Cetinkaya, who represents the Sweden international, and Arsenal are now seen as front-runners to secure his signature.

These talks are described as “a new phase in the negotiations” that is expected to lead to a formal offer being made to Sporting.

United had also held talks with Cetinkaya earlier this month but are now trailing in the race, according to Portuguese outlet Record.

The 26-year-old striker is reportedly frustrated by Sporting’s refusal to honour a gentleman’s agreement that would have allowed him to leave for €60 million, plus €10m in add-ons.

Instead, the Portuguese club are demanding closer to €80 million, despite not enforcing the full €100 million release clause.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas has publicly denied the existence of any such deal, insisting only that they would not push for the full clause value.

While Juventus remain interested, the Italian side are now considered outsiders in the transfer chase.

Viktor Gyokeres, who scored 43 goals in all competitions last season, is seen as an ideal profile for United’s evolving forward line.

The Swede brings pace, power and consistent finishing — traits sorely lacking during a troubled campaign at Old Trafford.

With Arsenal ramping up efforts and preparing a formal offer, Manchester United must act fast or risk losing out on another elite talent to their rivals.

United’s pursuit continues, but they now face an uphill battle.
