Arrowheadlines: Arrowheadlines: Missouri plan to keep Chiefs in state passes

Missouri’s plan to keep Chiefs & Royals stadiums passes legislature. What now? | The Kansas City Star

Missouri’s plan, which passed the House on a vote of 90 to 58 would allow Missouri to pay for up to 50% of new or improved stadiums for the Chiefs and Royals using tax revenue generated by the teams toward payment of bonds. Kansas’ bonds program, on the other hand, could pay for up to 70% of new stadiums. “We need to be moving Missouri forward,” said Rep. Chris Brown, a Kansas City Republican who handled the bill in the House. “And keeping these teams in Missouri is certainly a way to do that.”

Best- and worst-case scenarios for every NFL team in 2025: Chiefs back on top? Bears to end playoff drought? | CBS Sports

Kansas City Chiefs

Best-case scenario:Patrick Mahomes’ O-line recovers from an ugly Super Bowl, a freshened-up pass catching corps led by Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice reignites the deep attack, and the dynasty captures yet another championship.

Worst-case scenario: The line is reworked but no less unstable, forcing Mahomes to scramble more than he’d like, and Andy Reid’s scheming can’t undo lingering injuries. They fail to make the Super Bowl for the first time in four years.

NFL’s top 10 offenses in 2025? Bills, Bucs, Ravens headline my projection; Broncos coming in HOT | NFL.com

10 -Kansas City Chiefs

As you can imagine, several offenses merited serious consideration for the final slot in this ranking. The JUST MISSED category includes both Los Angeles teams, with the Chargers in Year 2 of Jim Harbaugh’s cultural transformation and the Rams now boasting Davante Adams as their WR2. I also pondered significant steps forward for the Bears’ and Falcons’ attacks, bearing in mind potential sophomore surges from Caleb Williams and Michael Penix Jr. Elsewhere, with Liam Coen and Travis Hunter touching down in Jacksonville, is this the year Trevor Lawrence puts it all together? And with San Francisco fresh off an injury-riddled Super Bowl hangover, is this the year we regrettably overlook Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers?

But after weighing all viable options at No. 10, I took the easy way out: Betting on Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.

Despite making the Super Bowl in each of the past two seasons, the Chiefs ranked 12th in offensive points per game in 2024 and 14th in 2023. That’s a notable departure from the first five years of the Reid-Mahomes pairing, when Kansas City ranked first twice and never finished lower than seventh. Everyone knows the main culprit for this downswing: an offensive line that sprung holes, especially on the edge. Consequently, Brett Veach aggressively targeted tackles in free agency (giving Trent Williams understudy Jaylon Moore a two-year, $30 million deal) and the 2025 NFL Draft (spending the first-round pick on Josh Simmons). Is that enough to fully patch up the problem areas? Maybe yes, maybe no — but I trust Reid and Mahomes to put more points on the board this fall, one way or another, especially given cleaner bills of health from running back Isiah Pacheco and wide receivers Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown.

Saquon Barkley, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts Top NFLPA Merch Sales Since 2024 | Bleacher Report

Per the NFLPA’s official release, Barkley is the first running back to finish No. 1 on the list since Ezekiel Elliott in 2017, coming off his stellar rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys.

Daniels is the first rookie quarterback to make the top five on a year-end list since Mac Jones in 2022.

Even though Mahomes ranked second in overall merchandise sales, he dominated most categories outside of jersey sales. The Chiefs superstar ranked No. 1 in Forever Collectibles bobblehead sales, Funko Pop vinyl collectibles, Fathead wall decals/cutouts, Outerstuff youth apparel and Party Animals figurines/plush toys.

The two positions that dominated the top 50 were quarterback (21) and wide receiver (12)

Don’t be surprised if Mike Edwards earns a real role with the Chiefs again | Arrowhead Addict

After a forgettable 2024, Mike Edwards is back with the Chiefs—and the path to meaningful snaps might be clearer than you think.

Back with the Chiefs, it might be easy to think that Edwards has hit the wall and that K.C. is just keeping him around as an emergency option. However, it’s not as if the team has made any major moves at safety this spring. This year’s draft came and went without any new additions, and aside from a few rookie free agents, Edwards might have a fairly clear role already earmarked for him.

The Chiefs have Bryan Cook back as a starter, but Justin Reid departed for New Orleans in free agency. The Chiefs’ signing of cornerback Kristian Fulton created a domino effect that will shake Chamarri Conner free to play safety full time, and Jaden Hicks is also ready for more playing time. However, there’s room for a fourth safety and the competition is hardly compelling.

At this point, it looks as if Edwards is vying for the fourth safety role with the likes of Deon Bush, who is a fringe roster player and special teams ace. Major Williams, Kevin Knowles, and Glendon Miller are also on the roster.

New Texans RB Nick Chubb: Previous injuries ‘all behind me’ | NFL.com

The old Nick Chubb was a bulldozing force who could bludgeon defenders with force and sprint away from unlucky defensive backs fruitlessly attempting to trip up the running back in space. That Chubb has been nonexistent since a devastating knee injury early in the 2023 season upended his career.

After signing with the Houston Texans this week, the 29-year-old running back believes he’s back to his old self.

“That’s all behind me. Injuries happen,” he told reporters on Wednesday. “With what I did, it takes about two years to really get back. So, I’m over the hump. Now, I’m feeling as good as I have been in a long time.”

Returning in the middle of last season while with the Cleveland Browns, Chubb lacked his former burst and tackle-breaking ability. Unsurprisingly, he averaged a career-low 3.3 yards per carry, rushing for 332 yards and two TDs on 102 carries in eight games.

Sean Payton: “We have a chance to be a real good defense” | NBC Sports

So does coach Sean Payton think this will be the best defense he has ever coached?

“We’ll see,” Payton told reporters on Tuesday. “We’re sitting here in June talking about the best. We have a chance to be a real good defense, and time will tell. Lucky enough, I’ve been a part of some really good defenses. We just have to keep improving. Really all of this is in preparation for training camp.”

Recently, NBC’s Devin McCourty dubbed Denver’s defense as the best in the league.

In free agency, the Broncos signed linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga from the 49ers. They also added cornerback Jahdae Barron with the 20th overall pick in the draft.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes could return to NFL MVP conversation in 2025

What needs to happen for Patrick Mahomes ‘ stats to return to elite level?

Well, it would certainly help if the Chiefs could protect him better. Can the combination of free agent signee Jaylon Moore and first-round rookie Josh Simmons help shore up the tackle position? Will second-year lineman Kingsley Suamataia be better at guard than he was last season at left tackle?

Getting Rashee Rice back from his knee injury will help the WR corps, as should a full season from Hollywood Brown. The Chiefs may never again be as explosive as they were in the early Mahomes days with Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt and prime Travis Kelce . But the offense has shown it can be efficient and effective when the O-line is right.

My take

I mostly agree with Graziano’s writeup, but let’s unpack it piece by piece.

First, to be clear here: I believe the Chiefs deserve the credit for creating a better pass-protection situation for Mahomes. That said, we definitely need to see how it all plays out.

As he returns from a knee cleanup, Jawaan Taylor projects to serve once again as the team’s starting right tackle. On the left side, Kansas City has two options: veteran Jaylon Moore and rookie Josh Simmons, who is making excellent progress recovering from his college injury.

At left guard, Kingsley Suamataia has been penciled in after a short-lived tackle experiment in 2025. Other possibilities include Mike Caliendo and Hunter Nourzad, who started seven games at left guard for Penn State.

In their first 5 Super Bowls:

Tom Brady: DVOA Difference (Team vs. Opponent): +14.92

Patrick Mahomes: DVOA Difference: -6.78

Both went 3-2.
