Everton looks set to firm up their interest in Thierno Barry in the coming days.

David Moyes’ side have reportedly tabled a £25.4 million bid for the Villarreal frontman as they look to transform their attacking options.

The France Under-21 star notched 11 goals and four assists in 35 matches his first season in La Liga and would be a solid opening signing for the Blues under the watch of the Friedkin Group.

Everton target Barry impresses despite France draw

Everton must push ahead with their interest in the 22-year-old after his latest exploits on the international stage against Portugal Under-21s.

The Toffees target was introduced in the 62nd minute (11 June) and he got straight into the action as Samuel Soares saved his header just two minutes later.

French media outlets were full of praise for the potential Blues star, with Le Figaro saying: “Thierno Barry still made an interesting entrance, without managing to give the Bleuets the victory.”

La Nouvelle Republique said: “After the break, the French looked much better. Particularly in attack, Gérald Baticle’s men finally showed more cohesion to create danger… the Bleuets, helped by the good entry of Barry.”

Meanwhile, So Foot said: “It was the new entrant Thierno Barry who was the first to hit the target of Samuel Soares with a powerful header from the penalty spot, perfectly saved by the Benfica goalkeeper.”

Barry must be a priority for Everton after France display

The transfer window reopens on 16 June, and Everton must try and secure a move for Barry as soon as they can.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks set to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit with his contract expiring and Beto could also depart, with newly-promoted Leeds United interested in his services in a potential £30m swoop.

Moyes needs new options to lead the line, Barry looks to be the real deal, and the Scotsman could steal on march on his Premier League rivals if he can land his signature and he starts firing in the goal immediately.

He is a pacey forward, strong in the air and a quality ball carrier, which would only help Moyes’ side going forward, given their lack of threat this season.

He knows where the net is, which is something that the Blues have struggled with this season, as they were the fourth-lowest scorers in the top flight.

There would be question marks over whether the young forward can adapt to the English game but given the speed at which he got used to the Spanish game, it is a gamble worth taking for Moyes and Co.
