Adam Wharton has had a solid season for Crystal Palace despite the injury he sustained, which kept him out for a large chunk of the campaign.
The midfielder has found himself called up to the England squad a couple of times now and is easily one of Oliver Glasner’s most important players.
At the moment, Liverpool have Ryan Gravenberch as their main defensive midfielder with Wataru Endo as his back-up.
However, with Arne Slot likely wanting to challenge for the Champions League next term, additional quality will have to be added to Liverpool’s ranks.

Which is why it isn’t a surprise to see links with Wharton emerging once again.
Liverpool aren’t likely to make a move for Adam Wharton this summer
Seeing as though Wharton is still young and has plenty of room to develop, the midfielder is unlikely to be short of suitors should he choose to leave Palace at any point.
The fact that he’s English also plays into his favour as every club seems to be on the lookout for the next Declan Rice.
And, while speaking via his personal YouTube channel, journalist Lewis Steele gave his thoughts on whether Liverpool could make a move for the Englishman this summer.

“I love Adam Wharton, he’s like a Spanish midfielder who happens to be English. Liverpool have scouted him in the past, Liverpool have liked him in the past,” he said.
“Does that mean a deal will be done this summer? I’m not sure, to be honest, and I don’t think so, but they’ve definitely posted an interest in the past from what I’ve heard from different colleagues and sources around.”
Why Adam Wharton would be a stellar signing for Liverpool
With the way things seem to be headed at Anfield this season, their biggest addition of the window is likely to be Florian Wirtz, who will be coming in for a first-team spot.
Upon his arrival, this would mean that Slot will have two more than solid options for his number 10 in Dominik Szoboszlai and the German, but it would also leave them short for cover in their other midfield positions.
Indeed, Alexis Mac Allister could be played in Gravenberch’s place, but as was shown during his first season with Liverpool, it’s far from the best position for a player with his skillset.
The addition of Wharton would allow Gravenberch and the Englishman to interchange with one another and allow both players to keep fresh for the long and gruelling season.

Of course, only time will tell what the future holds, but if Slot does want to add a new defensive midfielder to his ranks, he couldn’t do much better than the Eagles star.
And, the fact that they’ve already scouted him means that they know how good he is and the potential he could eventually live up to.
