Napoli’s interest has been longstanding and despite recent reports, doesn’t appear to be completely over.

The Serie A champions have been linked with the Argentine winger since the winter transfer market when they found themselves in desperate need of a talented winger.

The Azzurri ended up losing their star attacker, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG for around £60 million, with Antonio Conte seeing Garnacho as his natural replacement.

However, their initial bid of £40 million was rejected, with negotiations bringing United’s asking price from £70 million to £60 million to match the fee received for Kvaratskhelia.

Whilst nothing materialised with the talks to sign Garnacho, they also didn’t manage to sign another winger to replace Kvaratskhelia, meaning they’re still in the market for a left-winger.

That said, a new report from Italy claimed that Garnacho was no longer on the cards for Napoli, commenting: “Garnacho – now on vacation in Rome, as shown on social media – is now part of the past.”

However, Manchester Evening News has now reported that it’s not as cut and dry as this.

The report referenced comments from Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna making a point that Napoli won’t be paying over the odds for the Manchester United youngster.

As such it implies that the club haven’t entirely turned their backs on a move for Garnacho, however they also won’t go above and beyond to land his signature.

Now, United have reportedly put his valuation back up to £70 million, which might be a key factor for Napoli if they chose to not go ahead with a deal.

With Kevin De Bruyne having recently landed in Napoli for medical assessments ahead of his free transfer, it’s clear that the Italian side are keen to sign strong reinforcements ahead of their title defence and Champions League campaign.

As such, given Garnacho’s ability and potential to grow, alongside Conte’s appreciation for the talented winger, it’s hard to believe the sage between Napoli and Garnacho is completely over.
