Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte sent out a powerful message after Uruguay’s win on Wednesday against Venezuela in his country’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

Manuel Ugarte has been away from Old Trafford after he was called up to represent his country in Uruguay’s two World Cup qualifying matches in June.

The 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder featured for his country last Friday, with Ugarte playing the full 90 minutes for Uruguay against Paraguay.

However, Paraguay snatched all three points in the South American World Cup qualifiers after defeating Uruguay 2-0 at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco.

Uruguay made their return to action on Wednesday and Marcelo Bielsa’s men faced Venezuela in their latest World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Centenario.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side bounced back to winning ways and Uruguay clinched three important points with their 2-0 victory over Venezuela.

Man Utd star Manuel Ugarte speaks out after Uruguay’s World Cup qualifier vs Venezuela

Uruguay are currently fourth in the South American World Cup qualifying table and Marcelo Bielsa’s men are only a point behind third-place Brazil.

Brazil confirmed their place at the 2026 World Cup in North America after Carlo Ancelotti’s men defeated Paraguay on Wednesday in a 1-0 win.

Uruguay had picked up two draws and two defeats in their last four World Cup qualifiers ahead of the encounter with Venezuela.

Manchester United star Manuel Ugarte once again highlighted his importance for Bielsa’s side by playing the full 90 minutes in midfield against Venezuela.

Ugarte took to social media and the Uruguay and United midfielder insisted that his country have taken “one step more” to reaching the 2026 World Cup.

“Great match, great atmosphere,” he wrote on Instagram Stories.

“All together, one step more.”

What’s next for Man Utd star Manuel Ugarte after representing Uruguay in their World Cup qualifying campaign?

Ugarte will be expected to return to Old Trafford ahead of United’s pre-season campaign under Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim in July.

The former Sporting CP midfielder arrived at the Red Devils last summer and Ugarte made 45 appearances across all competitions in his debut season for United.

Ugarte, who completed the switch to Old Trafford from Paris Saint-Germain, scored twice and picked up six assists for the Red Devils in the 2024-25 campaign.

United agreed a deal worth up to £50.5m to sign Ugarte from PSG in 2024 and the Uruguay international put in some steady performances for the Red Devils.
