Jets Offer Breece Hall Update Amid Trade Rumors

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Breece Hall has had a tumultuous start to his NFL career since being drafted by the New York Jets in 2022.

The former second-round pick quickly became the lead runner in New York and became one of the better receiving backs in the league. In 2023, he finished fourth in the league in yards from scrimmage behind All-Pro talents like Christian McCaffrey and Tyreek Hill.

Things took a turn for the worse in 2024, though.

Hall struggled through a "serious" knee injury that kept him hobbled for most of the year. Now, with a new Jets coaching staff, his role as a lead back has disappeared.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has confirmed that the team will use a by-committee approach in their running back room. That doesn't mean Hall isn't part of their future plans, though.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday morning, offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand explained how important Hall can be to their offense in 2025.

"He's a worker... he's just a worker," Engstrand said. "He's going to go to work, he works on his craft, he's detailed, and he is an all-around player. He's not, I would say, not pigeon-holed into one type of back."

Hall is entering the final year of his contract with the Jets. He knows this season will be important for his future in the NFL, not just in New York.

While Hall is doing everything he can to regain the status of being a lead back again, he also understands that the by-committee approach could keep him fresh for the grueling days of the regular season.

He is also aware of the trade rumors that have been attached to his name all offseason long.

Fully healthy, Hall is one of the most dangerous running backs in the game. And the new regime is ready to do whatever is necessary to ensure that talent shows out on Sunday. …

But not necessarily by featuring Hall exclusively.
