Trent Alexander-Arnold warned by Spanish media about instant Real Madrid problem

Spanish media have warned Trent Alexander-Arnold about potential difficulties he may face with one of his new Real Madrid teammates.

Despite a warm welcome in Madrid, including an unveiling alongside club president Florentino Perez which proved Liverpool fans right, it's clear that challenges lie ahead for the young player. The main hurdle is the competition for the starting position with seasoned player Dani Carvajal.

The 33-year-old, who missed most of last season due to injury, is now fit and eager to secure his place in the starting line-up under new manager Xabi Alonso. With six Champions League titles and over 400 appearances for Real Madrid, displacing Carvajal will be no easy task.

Spanish reports suggest that this transition might not be smooth sailing for the newcomer.

Mundo Deportivo highlights the 'difficult coexistence' between Alexander-Arnold and Carvajal, who is expected to take on the captain's armband once Luka Modric departs after the upcoming Club World Cup.

Carvajal's attacking and defensive skills, his standing in the dressing room, and his competitive spirit are all seen as 'significant obstacles' that Alexander-Arnold will need to overcome to secure his spot as the first-choice right-back.

The article further suggests that veteran player Carvajal 'will not easily relinquish' his position in the team.

Carvajal has maintained his position in the team despite the presence of other high-caliber players during his 12-year tenure at the Bernabeu. Notably, Achraf Hakimi and Danilo have failed to secure a long-term spot in the side.

However, Alexander-Arnold's youth could work to his advantage. At 26, he is nearly seven years younger than Carvajal, and is entering the prime of his career.

A photo of Alexander-Arnold holding his new white shirt, emblazoned with the name 'Trent' and the No. 12, alongside Perez, was taken on Thursday.

During his unveiling, Alexander-Arnold spoke in fluent Spanish, saying: "Thank you Florentino Perez and the club for this opportunity. This does not happen every day, it is a dream come true. I am very happy and proud to be here. I want to show Real Madrid fans how I play. I realize the demands are high but I am going to give my all for the team and the fans."
