Coventry City to lose out on Viktor Gyokeres transfer

Manchester United’s summer business is slowly beginning to gather momentum under Ruben Amorim, with the club actively pursuing reinforcements in key areas.

Despite the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, questions remain over the club’s ability to deliver more firepower up front after a lacklustre season in front of goal.

With Rasmus Hojlund still unproven as a consistent scorer, United’s recruitment team has kept a close eye on Europe’s most prolific strikers—especially one with strong ties to their manager.

Viktor Gyokeres has been a standout name on their radar, but the path to landing the Swede is now more complicated than ever.

According to talkSPORT, Coventry City will not benefit financially from any future sale of Viktor Gyokeres, despite previously holding a sell-on clause when he joined Sporting CP from the Championship club.

The 27-year-old striker, who played under Amorim at Sporting, scored a staggering 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions this season, helping the Portuguese outfit to a league and cup double.

This return has placed him at the centre of a fierce transfer tug-of-war, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus all circling.

Arsenal, in particular, have surged ahead in the chase, reportedly holding talks with Gyokeres’ agent and preparing a formal offer.

While his release clause stands at a hefty £84.7 million, earlier suggestions of a £59m price tag have been rubbished by Sporting president Frederico Varandas, who insists no such agreement exists.

Coventry, meanwhile, appear to have waived their right to a sell-on fee last summer in exchange for £843,500 and performance-based bonuses, giving Sporting full profit on any future transfer.

The Sky Blues originally held a clause entitling them to 15% of any profit above the €20 million Sporting paid for Gyokeres, but that deal was reportedly altered as part of an internal transfer rebuild.

The Swedish forward is said to favour a move to Arsenal, according to CNN Portugal, with the Gunners firmly in pole position, even as they consider RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as an alternative.

Despite Amorim’s existing relationship with Gyokeres and United’s clear interest, the lack of official bids so far and Arsenal’s progress has left the Red Devils trailing in what could be a decisive summer saga.
