Chelsea will play in Atlanta for the third summer in a row, but this time it will be in competitive action at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
The Blues will open our Club World Cup campaign at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday evening, when we face Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC at 8pm (UK time).
We will be in familiar surroundings, having also taken to the pitch at the same venue during our pre-season tours of the USA in 2023 and 2024, and we remain undefeated in Atlanta after those previous two matches…
Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle United - 26 July 2023
We faced familiar opposition in Atlanta in our second match of the inaugural Premier League Summer Series.
We had already beaten Brighton 4-3 in opening game four days earlier, when Nicolas Jackson struck the decisive goal, and the striker continued his promising start to life with the Blues by scoring again on his second start for the club.
However, former - and now current - Atlanta United forward Miguel Almiron found the net once more in his former home to equalise for Newcastle before half-time.
There was late pressure from the Blues, but we had to settle for a draw, although there were some good signs ahead of a season which would see us return to the top half of the table and European competition.
Chelsea 3-0 Club America, 31 July 2024
Our third match in the USA last summer brought our first win of pre-season, and in impressive style, as we thrashed the Mexican champions Club America in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall made his Chelsea debut in midfield, as did goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who came off the bench at half-time to replace Robert Sanchez and complete our clean sheet. By that midway point Enzo Maresca's Blues were already two up, thanks to an early Christopher Nkunku penalty and Marc Guiu's first Chelsea goal.
Club Amercia gave a better account of themselves in the second half, but the first victory of Maresca's reign never looked in doubt, even before Noni Madueke converted our second spot-kick of the game to make the final score a comprehensive 3-0.
