Romeo Lavia suffered his medal-deprived misery last month, and now, Chelsea has granted his wishes by backing him for the Club World Cup where he will be aiming to go all the way.
The trophies end of the season are usually meaningless for Southampton, and the club's slim silverware cabinet is the evidence. Thus, it's a general fan feeling that a flurry of on-field miracles will be needed until the Saints can dream of party celebrations.
Still, nothing is stopping former Saints from doing so, albeit at different clubs. Talking about the past season, Tino Livramento, Nathaniel Clyne and Kevin Danso enjoyed those trophy nights but not all silverware atmospheres end well.
It might sound weird but ex-Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia has experienced that bittersweet moment first-hand. Initially, an injury-hit season denied him playing time which later restricted him from even taking home a consolation medal.
Lavia can erase medal agony with potential Club World Cup medal
And goes without saying, the 21-year-old's hunger for more titles and medals will have only increased for the better. As a result, Lavia's breakthrough campaign could come next year and Chelsea has started laying the foundations for that, too.
Nowadays, the Club World Cup is held in high regard among the elite clubs across the globe. The Blues are also one of them and in an interesting move, they have added Lavia to their entrusted roster in a bid to land this summer's coveted honour.
Overall, the message from Chelsea's camp is clear. Either Lavia grabs this opportunity and makes the most of his playing time in the States or risks getting any further backing from the board who are always on the lookout for talented and emerging prodigies.
Now, it may appear as a performance ultimatum but Southampton fans know it's been a while since Lavia waved goodbye to St. Mary's for Chelsea. Hence, let's hope both he and the Saints prepare for the new season with full enthusiasm and meet in the Premier League soon.
