AC Milan's double swoop: Talks held in London for two Arsenal defenders

AC Milan are exploring a double swoop for Arsenal defenders Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko as they begin rebuilding under Massimiliano Allegri.

The Serie A side held talks with Arsenal officials in London this week, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, with both players discussed during a meeting led by a Milan emissary.

Zinchenko has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Theo Hernandez at left-back, with the France international in negotiations over a move to Atletico Madrid.

The Ukraine international has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal after a frustrating campaign in which he made just five Premier League starts.

Myles Lewis-Skelly and last summer signing Riccardo Calafiori were preferred options in the second half of the season as Mikel Arteta reshaped his defensive line.

Zinchenko’s current contract runs until 2026, and while Arsenal are not actively pushing him out, the club are expected to listen to offers this summer.

Milan are reportedly interested in a deal below £15 million, with the Rossoneri hoping to structure a salary package that spreads payments over several seasons.

Kiwior is also high on Milan’s list as they consider replacements for Malick Thiaw, who is in talks to return to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.

The Poland international joined Arsenal from Spezia in January 2023 and is well known to Milan’s recruitment team due to his previous Serie A experience.

He featured prominently in April and May following Gabriel Magalhaes’ hamstring injury, starting Arsenal’s final eight Premier League games and all four Champions League knockout fixtures.

While Kiwior impressed during that run, Arsenal are believed to be monitoring new options at centre-back, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi among the names under consideration.

Kiwior’s ability to play across the back line makes him an attractive prospect for Milan, who are seeking greater tactical flexibility under Allegri.

The Rossoneri have struggled defensively in recent seasons, conceding over 40 goals in each of their last three league campaigns.

Allegri, known for his focus on defensive solidity, has prioritised reinforcements at the back since returning to the club in May.

Milan are also tracking Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso and Tottenham Hotspur’s Destiny Udogie, but both players would likely command higher fees.

For now, Zinchenko and Kiwior remain active targets as Milan press ahead with early summer business, and Arsenal could be tempted if the price is right.
