A number of former Everton players have tried their hand at management.
Lee Carsley, who actually played under David Moyes, has enjoyed a successful stint with England under-21s, with an interim position at senior level sandwiched between that.
Carsley has been linked with the Leicester City job lately, but he’s snubbed the chance to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Wayne Rooney has been less successful on the touchline but was mooted with a move to Blackburn Rovers in April.
Now, another former Everton star has just been linked with an EFL vacancy and it’s understood that a deal is close.

Former Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley in ‘pole position’ to become Plymouth Argyle manager
Tom Cleverley spent a couple of seasons at Everton during his playing career, making 42 appearances for the club.
Since hanging up his boots, Cleverley has stepped into management and enjoyed a steady spell at Watford before being controversially sacked.
Watford decided to get rid of Cleverley at the end of last season, despite guiding the club to within a point of a top-half finish on very limited resources.

If indeed Cleverley does land the Plymouth job, the expectation will be to gain promotion from League One.
The south coasters suffered relegation from the Championship last term, but gave it a valiant effort, only missing out on safety by three points.
They will have one of the biggest budgets in the division after Birmingham City and Wrexham’s automatic promotion.
Huddersfield Town are being touted as the early favourites, but Cleverley’s appointment certainly signals a statement of intent from Argyle.
