The Club World Cup is at least good for one thing it seems. It gives players on the fringes of squads involved a pretty clear steer of their future prospects.

Squads were named for the upcoming tournament this week and both Manchester City and Chelsea omitted some high-profile figures from their traveling parties.

From an Everton perspective, the most significant line involves Jack Grealish. As anticipated, the £100m man has been left at home by City, casting major doubt over his future at the Etihad Stadium.

The Blues have been linked with a loan move for the England international lately, although Grealish's £300,000-a-week wages could make any switch difficult until the end of the window at least.

David Moyes and the new-look Everton recruitment team will surely be scrutinising those lists carefully. While Grealish is the big-name absentee, other players who have been left at home could represent options this summer.

After all, the Blues boss has conceded that there is a huge rebuild to take on ahead of the first season at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

So what other players are likely to be available for transfer or potential domestic loans? Admittedly, some are much more appealing than others.

Kyle Walker has also been left out of the City squad, having spent the second half of last season at AC Milan on loan. The full-back has looked well short of his best lately though and struggled on international duty for England last time out.

Chelsea are the other Premier League team involved and they have left a number of big-name signings out of their squad.

Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, Axel Disasi and Ben Chilwell will not be involved for the London outfit. That quartet cost a combined £179million in transfer fees and they all spent the season on loan away from Stamford Bridge at various points.

Sterling struggled during a spell with Arsenal last season, while Chilwell helped Crystal Palace win the FA Cup after moving in January.

Felix also moved to Milan mid-season, although failed to find consistency in his 15 Serie A appearances. Disasi also made a January move, playing 10 times for Aston Villa in the second half of the season.

Chelsea have also left out Serbia goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who was on loan at Strasbourg last season.

Youngsters Kendry Paez and Renato Veiga could also be looking for a move after failing to make the cut. According to BBC Sport, the duo have been left frustrated by the decision, with Paez said to be surprised after only just joining the club for £17.2m from Independiente del Valle.

The scale of Everton's summer rebuild is not known completely yet. The club have offered new contracts to Idrissa Gueye and Seamus Coleman, while both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Michael Keane are still said to be in negotiations over a move.
