EFL Analysis understands Chelsea are now close to agreeing a deal for a former Preston North End player after interest from Liverpool and more Premier League clubs.
Preston North End endured a rough 2024/25 season that ended in very nervy fashion.
The Lilywhites’ Championship spot was secured for another season, but their status as a second-tier side was not confirmed until the final day, finishing just one point above 22nd-place Luton Town.
While it was a difficult 12 months for Preston, one of their former players who left Deepdale this summer is now on his way to Chelsea.

Kian Best to sign for Chelsea
EFL Analysis can confirm that former Preston defender Kian Best has held talks with Chelsea and is close to agreeing a deal.
Left-sider Best was a shock departure from Deepdale this summer, but the 19-year-old is attracting interest from a number of clubs.
We now understand that Chelsea are pushing ahead with a move and Best is close to finalising a move to West London – where he is likely to become part of their youth set-up – although being a BlueCo player, he could very well start his career in France with Strasbourg.
It is believed that a number of Premier League clubs showed an interest – including Liverpool, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

What Kian Best said about leaving Preston North End
Best was loaned to Irish outfit Bohemians in the second half of 2024/25, making one appearance.
After returning to Preston, Best made an interesting comment, as per the Lancashire Post, claiming he had found out about his release when the club posted their retained list on social media.
The youngster then penned a heartfelt goodbye to the club and fans on Instagram, writing: “Thank you to everyone at @pnefcofficial for the past 12 years. From joining at 7 to making my debut 10 years later it’s been some journey.
“Being a Preston lad I would have loved for it to continue but that’s football. Thank you to all the players and staff that helped me on the way. Lastly, I am grateful to the fans for the support. I’ll always be one of your own. UTW”
