Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic may be a step closer towards joining Leeds United.

Daniel Farke‘s side are in desperate need of a number one after Illan Meslier was dropped towards the end of the season.

The Frenchman is not expected to return between the sticks and the Whites are believed to be looking for a new starter in the position.

The Blues star is on the list of targets at Elland Road, and a deal may have been made easier after new developments from Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old is expected to leave Enzo Maresca’s side after being excluded from their Club World Cup squad.

However, a report from BBC Sport (12 June) claims that an image rights issue could get in the way of a permanent transfer.

It states that a loan deal away from West London is being explored as a way to get around that problem.

Leeds loan could be perfect solution for Petrovic

Farke’s biggest priority in the transfer window is sorting a number one goalkeeper with the doubts over Meslier and Karl Darlow‘s abilities.

The Peacocks need a reliable option in the position as that could prove to be the difference between survival and relegation back to the Championship.

49ers Enterprises are expected to invest this summer but a loan move for Petrovic could be the perfect outcome for Leeds.

Petrovic proved his quality in the top-flight in the 2023/24 campaign, where he recorded five clean sheets and conceded 38 goals in 23 matches after being handed the starting role.

He has since fallen out of favour and was loaned to Strasbourg this season, where he won Player of the Season after keeping 10 clean sheets in Ligue 1.

They would get a great goalkeeper, but also save money that could be reinvested in other areas of the squad, such as left-back, striker and midfield.

There are doubts over the futures of Junior Firpo, Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe in Yorkshire, so any finances that they can spare would be welcome in their bid to stay in the promised land.
