Bucs ILB Anthony Walker.

Anthony Walker didn’t hold back.

The thirtysomething inside linebacker and old friend of Lavonte David who the Bucs signed this offseason, was over the top about a Bucs linebacker.

No, Walker didn’t go ga-ga over David. We all know David is a franchise icon. But it was oft-injured third-year linebacker from Pitt, SirVocea Dennis, who the veteran Walker made out to be the second coming of Derrick Brooks.

“He’s going to be a great player for a long time, Walker gushed of Dennis. Then, Walker explained that Dennis made a play — in underwear football no less! — that Walker said was one of the best plays he’s seen a linebacker make.

Whoa!

Joe gets that teammates can and often will get lost in hyperbole when speaking about a teammate. You don’t often hear a player speak of a teammate, “That rotten, no good SOB… ” Even though the player in question may be a rotten, no good SOB.

But elevating Dennis to NFL greatness, well, Joe cannot stretch the imagination that far.

Could Dennis become great? Sure. But Joe would like to see him stay on the field for a change. A guy could have the talent of Lawrence Taylor but if he’s always in the tub, it doesn’t matter how good a guy is or can be.

Walker also said he’s been so impressed by the Bucs culture “from top to bottom,” he’d like to finish his career here.
