'I've spoken to the club' - Manchester United handed huge transfer boost with 'world-class' star open to move

The Brighton star has been linked with a potential move to Man Utd in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have been handed a potential boost in their reported pursuit of Brighton star Pervis Estupinán. Ruben Amorim would like to add another wing-back to his squad in the summer transfer window and it is understood they admire the 27-year-old.

United have prioritised the addition of Premier League experience this summer, with Amorim eager to improve the athleticism and overall fitness of his first-team squad. He believes there is a real benefit to sign those who have already shown they can cope with the demands of the English top-flight.

Matheus Cunha was unveiled as the club’s first summer signing on Thursday, while United are expected to submit a revised bid for Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo as well. If possible, Amorim would also like to sign another wing-back and a deal for Estupinán would make a lot of sense given his experience in a three-year spell with Brighton.

Pervis Estupinán open to summer move

Pervis Estupinán featured for Ecuador earlier in the week as they secured World Cup qualification with a goalless draw against Peru. The result leaves them second in the CONMEBOL qualification process, only behind Argentina and ahead of Brazil on goal difference.

Speaking after the draw, the Brighton full-back was quizzed on his immediate club future and asked if he could be on the move in the summer transfer window. Manchester United are looking at wing-back options with a recent report suggesting 'there’s definitely legs to' their interest in Estupinán.

“The truth is they have been three years in Brighton with a lot of learning," he told Maria Jose Flores of El Canal Del Futbol. "But this will be a transfer market with a lot of movement. The club know that I would like to grow, that I would like to keep growing. The club have understood this. I’ve spoken to the club. The club have given me this bit of freedom to be able to make a decision. Now we will try to see better what is on the table and to see where we can go."

Why would United want to sign him

Estupinan has three seasons of Premier League experience and has been a part of a Brighton side that have finished in the top half for two of the three seasons he’s been there. Prior to joining the Seagulls, Estupinan formed part of the Villarreal team that won the Europa League in 2021 by beating United and later reached the Champions League semi-finals.

The 27-year-old is blessed with speed, agility, stamina and excellent defensive awareness. He’s seen as an asset at both ends of the pitch and was even referred to by former United captain Antonio Valencia as one of the best full-backs in the world.

“For me, Pervis Estupinan is the best left-back in the Premier League and maybe the best in the world," he said in 2023. "He is having an incredible season and he has room to improve. He’s strong defensively, he’s good on the ball, his crossing has improved, he’s very intelligent. I think he will continue to improve because he’s very professional.”
