New All-Pro Steelers cornerback quiets move to slot amid rumors of big add

PITTSBURGH --Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Darius Slay does not sound like he is moving into the slot amid rumors the Steelers are interested in some top cornerbacks.

Slay told Alan Saunders of Steelers Now that he is willing to do anything, but it does not sound like a move to the slot is imminent.

"One of the other options, should the Steelers add another outside corner, could be moving Darius Slay to the slot. He has played some there in the past, with a career high of 140 snaps in 2019 per Pro Football Focus. I asked Slay about playing in the slot, and he said he’d be willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win, but it didn’t sound like something that’s imminent," Saunders wrote.

If the Steelers did pursue someone like Jalen Ramsey or Jaire Alexander, Slay’s position would be a big question. Both of those players listed above have played in the slot before, so they could kick inside instead of Slay if that would happen.

Slay signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Steelers in March that is fully guaranteed. Slay will join the Steelers’ cornerback room, which has been searching for an upgrade over the last few years, and he will play across fromJoey Porter Jr.
