Houston Texans safety and defensive captain Jimmie Ward was arrested after an incident at his home in Magnolia, Texas, early Thursday morning.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Ward faces a felony assault family violence charge and is currently being held without bond. He has been accused of choking someone and was arrested at 5:30 am on Thursday.
The Texans' Senior Director of Communications released a brief statement following Ward's arrest: "We are aware of the report involving Jimmie Ward. We are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time."
No current comments are available from Ward or any of his representatives. It is not known if Ward has retained an attorney.
Ward, who joined the Texans in 2023, is in his third season with the team after following coach DeMeco Ryans from the San Francisco 49ers. He has not been practicing with the team recently due to foot surgery.
Known for his hard-hitting style, Ward was a key piece of the quick turnaround in Houston. He has started all 20 games in which he has played since joining the team, but is expected to take on a reduced role this year after key defensive additions and the emergence of second-year safety Calen Bullock.
Ward is currently under contract through the end of 2025 and carries a $5.6 million cap number.
