Two Western Conference teams taking charge in Kevin Durant trade

The Phoenix Suns are fully expected to trade first-ballot future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant this offseason, and several teams have expressed interest. While Durant will turn 37 before the next season starts, the 15-time All-Star still holds a great amount of value.

Yet, while many teams would love to add someone as accomplished and talented as Durant to their roster, only a handful of teams will actually have a chance. It’s possible the Durant trade sweepstakes are finally down to the final two teams.

According to The Ringer’s NBA insider Zach Lowe, the two teams creating the “most buzz” on a Durant trade are the Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs. Lowe later added that the “biggest mystery in the league right now is how aggressive the Spurs are actually gonna get.”

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves previously expressed a strong interest in trading for Durant ahead of last year’s NBA trade deadline. Those talks have reportedly picked back up.

The Timberwolves previously kept Jaden McDaniels off limits during the Durant trade negotiations; obviously, Anthony Edwards is not up for grabs either. Ideally, the Timberwolves will pair Edwards with his favorite player in Durant. Yet, first they’ll have to beat out the Spurs’ offer before executing a blockbuster offseason trade for the second year in a row.
