Fans have witnessed numerous ex-Manchester United figures go on become managers.

Some have thrived, while others have struggled.

Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick are of course, both managers related to United.

While McKenna did not play for United, he has still shown his level managing at Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

Meanwhile Carrick was manager at Middlesbrough, although was recently sacked following a poor season.

Another former person with relations to Red Devils now finds himself close to being appointed as manager.

Plymouth Argyle are pushing to move swiftly in naming their new manager following their relegation to League One.

The club’s recent restructuring has seen former player David Fox take charge of football operations, supported by ex-Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber.

Plymouth conducted final interviews with four candidates on Wednesday after also speaking with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Des Buckingham.

Among the finalists was St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson, but a different figure impressed most during the final stages.

As per The Guardian’s report, Plymouth have chosen Tom Cleverley as their new head coach and expect to finalise the appointment within 48 hours.

The 35-year-old, sacked by Watford last month after guiding them to 14th in the Championship, has been the club’s top target throughout the process.

Cleverley will succeed Miron Muslic, who left for Schalke, and is set to begin a new chapter in his coaching career at Home Park.

The Englishman was an established player for the Red Devils from 2011-2014, where he made 79 appearances scored five goals.

Cleverley played under the genius Sir Alex Ferguson and often found himself being relied upon in huge encounters.

His coaching career hasn’t seen a huge lift off yet – having only managed at Watford.
