Manchester United are deep in the search for attacking reinforcements, with Rasmus Hojlund’s inconsistency continuing to pose a concern at Old Trafford.

The club remain publicly supportive of the young Dane.

However, internally there’s growing acceptance that a more polished forward is needed to lead the line.

Plenty of names have been assessed, with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres still viewed as the top target heading into the summer.

Now, another major development has emerged.

Manchester United have officially entered the race for Hugo Ekitike, as reported by Florian Plettenberg on X.

The journalist claims that United made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt within the last 48 hours, expressing concrete interest and collecting all key information regarding a deal.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is coming off a spectacular season in the Bundesliga, racking up 22 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

Liverpool and Chelsea have also shown interest.

However, United’s move now makes it a fierce Premier League battle for his signature.

According to Plettenberg, Ekitike’s price tag has now reached €100 million, with Frankfurt only willing to sell for a premium.

As known in May, United had already held positive talks with the striker’s camp and were preparing a formal bid.

Viewed as a player capable of either partnering or replacing Hojlund, Ekitike fits the new profile being targeted under Ruben Amorim’s watch.

With the summer window approaching, United may now have to act fast if they want to avoid losing another key target to a Premier League rival.
