Arsenal target Nico Williams has reportedly informed Bayern Munich that he is “very open” to joining the Bundesliga giants this summer, according toSky Germany.

The 22-year-old Athletic Bilbao winger, who has also attracted strong interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, is one of the most sought-after wingers in Europe following an impressive campaign with Bilbao and a standout performance for Spain at Euro 2024. Williams recorded 11 goals and 7 assists last season, helping Bilbao secure a fourth-place finish in La Liga and qualification for the Champions League.

With Leroy Sané finalising his move to Galatasaray, Bayern have stepped up their efforts to land Williams as a replacement. Sky Germany reports that Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl and Christoph Freund have held talks with Williams’ representatives, and the player himself has expressed a clear willingness to make the switch.

However, Bayern will need to meet Williams’ €58 million (£48.1m) release clause, as well as his significant wage demands, which are believed to be around €380,000 (£322,000) per week.

Despite the growing speculation, Williams publicly stated in April that he was content at Bilbao, saying: “I’m super happy here and feel well. I’ve always wanted to feel important here.” The Basque club is also said to be working on a contract extension, with his current deal set to run until 2027.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are shifting their focus toward Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as their top wide target, while also prioritising the signing of a new centre-forward. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko remains their primary striker target, although Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is still being monitored amid reports of a deteriorating relationship with his club.

Chelsea also remain in the race for Williams but have yet to make a formal approach. As things stand, Bayern appear to have taken the lead, with Williams’ willingness to join potentially tipping the scales in their favour.
