Everton face the prospect of losing Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The England star has been linked with likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, with Tottenham and Real Madrid also sniffing around his services.

David Moyes will be desperate to keep his star man on Merseyside despite a potentially huge amount of money being offered, that could be reinvested in the squad.

However, while he may well stay on Merseyside, it may not be in the blue shirt.

Liverpool move for Everton star Branthwaite mooted

Liverpool are also understood to hold an interest in the Blues star and while a move would be hard to pull off, it is seemingly not an impossibility.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The Toffees are interested in Reds star Ben Doak as Moyes looks to shore up his attacking options after his side finished as the fourth-lowest scorers in the division.

However, Liverpool Echo reporter Ian Doyle believes that may open the door for Branthwaite to move in the other direction.

He said: “Given the Blues have an interest in teenage Liverpool winger Ben Doak, it’s clear the barriers that usually stop such cross-city transfers happening are being lowered by the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit at present.

“Liverpool, then, should take advantage. Branthwaite wouldn’t be cheap but, with one brief England cap and only limited European experience, the Merseyside premium should be negated on his overall value.

“It’ll probably never happen, but if you don’t ask, you don’t get and as Premier League champions, Liverpool’s allure will never be greater than at present.”

Everton need to keep hold of Branthwaite

While a potential £80million windfall would be brilliant for Everton because it would strengthen their transfer budget, it should be dismissed.

He has enjoyed a phenomenal rise to stardom since moving to Goodison Park and has emerged as one of the best defenders in the league, forming a great partnership with James Tarkowski.

The duo were a key reason in the Toffees conceding the fourth-fewest goals in the top-flight and that will likely not happen next season if he departs.

Blues supporters will be furious that a potential move to Arne Slot’s side has even been suggested, it would be bad enough if he was sold, but to their arch-rivals, who have just won the title.

That would set a bad tone for fans, and put the Friedkin Group on the backfoot in terms of how their business would be judged ahead of the new season.

Positivity is key, Moyes wants to qualify for Europe in the near future, that will not be possible if the atmosphere around the club is sullied by a cross-Merseyside sale.

The suggestion is simply ludicrous and should not be entertained.
