‘Entered the race’: Reporter claims Man Utd have made contact to sign ‘exceptional’ striker in last 48 hours

Manchester United already have one new attacker snapped up but Ruben Amorim is still seeking further additions in the final third.

Matheus Cunha has donned the Manchester United shirt for the first time, having recently joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Brazilian represents a huge addition to United’s attack, but he is likely to play as a number 10 rather than as a striker.

United are likely to move for a new centre-forward this summer, but Liam Delap has chosen a move to Chelsea over heading to Old Trafford.

Viktor Gyokeres is on United’s radar as Amorim eyes a reunion with the Sporting striker having enjoyed great success together in Lisbon.

Manchester United ramp up Hugo Ekitike interest

Gyokeres is angry with Sporting as they refuse to sell him for his desired price tag, and the situation is becoming rather complicated.

United may need to target other strikers, and Ineos could look towards the Bundesliga market.

Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike was linked with United ahead of the summer window, and his name is back in the mix.

United have ‘gathered all relevant information’ over the last 48 hours and could now make a move for the French striker.

Chelsea and Liverpool still fancy signing Ekitike, but it’s United who now appear to be ramping up a move.

Ekitike racked up 15 goals and eight assists for Eintracht this past season, emerging as one of the top young forwards in Europe.

Tall, fast and very skilful, Ekitike has earned comparisons to Alexander Isak for his style of play and has been hailed as ‘exceptional’ by boss Dino Toppmoller on the official Bundesliga website.

Keep Viktor Gyokeres in mind amid Hugo Ekitike rumours

This could be the dream move for Ekitike.

Speaking on Eintracht TV in April 2024, as seen above, Ekitike admitted that he grew up supporting United.

United may not be the force of Ekitike’s youth, but a move to Old Trafford would surely still appeal to him.

The 22-year-old is a huge talent, but the timing of these rumours emerging leaves us thinking about the mind games in the race for Gyokeres.

Arsenal have reportedly made their move for Gyokeres, but United will be wary of being drawn into bidding for the striker right away.

Arsenal’s focus appears to be Benjamin Sesko, so rumours of a Gunners bid could easily be a ploy to tempt United into a bid.

Similarly, Ekitike suddenly being a key target could be an attempt to bring Sporting’s price tag for Gyokeres down to avoid missing out on a big sale.

These are the games of brinkmanship clubs and agents play in the transfer window, and Amorim’s connection to Gyokeres means it would be little surprise to see the Swede ahead of Ekitike in United’s striking wish list.
