Kyrie Irving future in Dallas Mavericks revealed

Kyrie Irving’s future with the Dallas Mavericks appears secure despite his ACL injury and major roster changes, including the potential addition of No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg. NBA insider Marc Stein says there are no signs Irving will leave Dallas.

Kyrie Irving time in Dallas Mavericks may have taken a hit due to injury, but his role with the team still appears secure, at least for now.

After being traded to Dallas during the 2023 deadline, Irving helped guide the Mavericks to the NBA Finals alongside Luka Doncic.

But following Doncic’s surprising departure last season and Irving's ACL injury, the team’s future core is undergoing a reset.

Despite the uncertainty, NBA insider Marc Stein recently gave Mavericks fans some clarity on the DLLS Mavericks Podcast.

“I don't hear anyone forecasting scenarios where Kyrie Irving is no longer a Maverick,” Stein said. “I haven't heard one scenario presented where he ends up with another team.”

Irving, 33, is currently rehabbing after tearing his ACL in March. While his return timeline remains unclear, the Mavericks reportedly still see him as a central figure moving forward.

“The whispers that were going around were that the Mavs would like to do a three-year deal in the $40 million a year range. So, a three-year deal that was $120 million again,” Stein added.

With Luka gone and the Mavericks landing the No. 1 overall pick, expected to be used on phenom Cooper Flagg. Irving’s veteran leadership and scoring ability become even more important.

“On one hand, Kyrie Irving is the only elite, proven guard on this roster,” Stein said. “And with Luka Doncic no longer here, his value to the Mavericks has theoretically skyrocketed. But on the flip side… he sustained an ACL tear. Is it January? Is it February? Predicting how this plays out—I wish I were that smart.”

The Mavs ended last season with a 39–43 record, falling short in the Play-In Tournament without their starting point guard. Now, the team is expected to build around a new trio: Irving, Anthony Davis, and projected top pick Flagg.

Last season in 50 games he played, Irving averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field, and 40.1% from three.
