Viktor Gyokeres remains at the centre of one of this summer’s most explosive transfer sagas.
The Swedish striker has been pushing for an exit, with Manchester United and Arsenal both chasing his signature as part of high-stakes summer moves.
Ruben Amorim has made the 27-year-old a top target, and Gyokeres’ growing frustration with Sporting’s handling of his situation has only strengthened United’s pursuit.

Now, Swedish outlet Aftonbladet have provided major insight into how and why the forward’s relationship with Sporting has broken down so publicly.
According to the report, the “bad feeling” between Gyokeres’ camp and the Portuguese club began over a year ago.
It is believed to have stemmed from a leak.
In May 2024, the striker underwent minor knee surgery, which both sides agreed would be kept confidential.
But the day after a meeting between the player and Sporting, the story was leaked to the Portuguese press.
Aftonbladet suggest the Gyokeres camp believe the leak came directly from the club, aimed at sabotaging a summer move in 2024 by raising doubts over his fitness.

That theory may seem far-fetched.
However, it reportedly sparked major distrust and tension that has lasted ever since.
It was that meeting which eventually led to what Gyokeres believed was a gentleman’s agreement to leave for a fee under €100m this summer.
But when Sporting president Frederico Varandas recently denied any such agreement existed.
He instead insisted no €60m+€10m offer would be accepted – the striker’s fury boiled over.

It was earlier revealed by Sky Sports News that Gyokeres has now told the club he will not play for them again.
Despite this chaos, United and Arsenal remain in the frame, with both clubs holding meetings with the player’s agent this week.
Arsenal are currently seen as frontrunners.
However, Amorim’s relationship with Gyokeres could still tip the race in Manchester United’s favour.
As the saga continues to unravel, fans wait to see where one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards will land this summer.
