NBA rumors: 4 Options emerge in Sacramento Kings pursuit of impact playmaker, including bold…

A new report points to four paths the Sacramento Kings could take to get a difference-making playmaker next season, including one-time Sixth Man of the Year winner Malcolm Brogdon.

After being hired to be the team’s new general manager, Scott Perry made it clear they needed a legitimate playmaker on offense after they traded De’Aaron Fox before the deadline earlier this year. The Kings are locked into over $200 million in salaries next season. So they will have to be creative in how they add a difference maker in the backcourt.

On Thursday, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed the latest rumblings on the Kings’ pursuit. And one option in the rumor mill is trading back into Round 1 of this month’s NBA Draft.

“Sources have duly linked Sacramento to various guards known to be available this summer. That list includes Jrue Holiday in Boston and Marcus Smart in Washington. And stretches to more affordable free agent ballhandlers like Malcolm Brogdon.

“Another intriguing rumble emanating from the California capital: Sacramento has searched for trade avenues to acquire a first-round pick, sources say, and has expressed confidence to various agents that it could be selecting as high as the early 20s.”

Sacramento does not have a first-round pick in 2025 after they sent it to Atlanta three years ago in the Kevin Huerter trade. The selection was top-12 protected. However, the Kings landed at 13 in this year’s draft, which meant it was now owned by the Hawks.

Holiday, Smart, and Brogdon would all be solid options. The team already has more than enough scoring with DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis on the roster. Getting a player who can run the offense, and/or play good defense, would be a great fit.

Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr., BYU’s Egor Demin, and Frenchman Nolan Traoré could be possible targets in the draft.
